NASARAWA State Government,on Friday,announced that the sum of N40.16 billion out of the N199, 9 billion to be expended in the education sector.
Briefing Journalists at the breakdown of 2024 budget, the Commissioner for Finance , Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Munira Abdullahi, said the amount represents 20% of the this year’s total budget.
The Commissioner explained that education topped the priority of the state government accounting for the allocation of 20 per cent of its 2024 budget in compliance with UNESCO’s recommendation.
According to the Commissioner. the budget is made up of N113.123 billion as recurrent expenditure and N86.8 billion for capital expenditure, adding that the budget is expected to be funded from the following revenue sources; opening balance of N3.56 billion, statutory revenue allocation of N45 billion.
Others are; value added tax N27.50 billion, exchange gain of N7.50 billion, special allocation of N11 billion, refund from NNPC N20 billion and other revenue from FAAC N5.9 billion.
The Commissioner, however, assured the people of government’s readiness to implement a transparent budget that would impact on the lives of the people in Nasarawa.
On the spate of insecurity in the state, the commissioner disclosed that government had concluded arrangements to install CCTV cameras in the state Capital and it’s environs to tackle the security situation in the state.
