Hon. Ojoma Comfort Nwuchiola as Deputy on Thursday emerged as the first Deputy Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly in 32 years.
Our correspondent reports that the emergency of Nwuchiola was sequel to the resignation of the occupant of the position, Hon.Enema Paul.
He attributed his resignation his failing health.
Rt Hon Enema Paul,who tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House during plenary sitting, praised Gov Yahaya Bello in glowing language for the love he had for him and for their love and prayers for him.
He recalled that the sickness started in 2011, adding that he had through the permission and assistance of Governor Bello, had travelled abroad to seek healing and surgery abroad but that the illness remained.
The former deputy speaker added that now he felt weaker daily, he concluded that he should go look for healing.
According to him, the hospital in abroad was daily requesting him to return for treatment.
Based on the development, Hon.Paul, therefore, sought the for permission of the Assembly to travel abroad for a year and tendered his resignation letter which was accepted by the Assembly.
The Clerk of the House, Mr Chogudo Sule Ahmed, therefore, sought for nominations of another Deputy Speaker.
Thereafter, the representative of Ajaokuta State Constituency ,Hon.Abu Jibrin ,nominated the representative of Ibaji State Constituency ,Hon. Ojoma Comfort Nwuchiola as Deputy speaker.
The representative of Kabba/Bunu State Constituency ,Hon Seyi Bello seconded the nomination.
The Clerk of the House ,Mr Chogudo, thereafter, administered the oath of office on her the new deputy speaker.
After her oath of office, the new deputy speaker thanked Governor Bello and the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, for ensuring the enabling environment in which the nomination took place.
She called for increased unity and cooperation of her colleagues.
The Reporters recalls that Kogi state,a geographical expression in north central Nigeria, was created on August 27,1991 from the old Kwara and Benue states.
