ABU @ 61: A Celebration of plethora of achievements.

On 4th October 2023, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), a federal government research university located in Zaria, Kaduna state, marked 61 years.
The University was founded on October 4, 1962, as the University of Northern Nigeria but was later renamed after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria.
At inception, ABU had four faculties; comprising 15 departments and 426 total students.
As time progressed, the student population got to 45,000 plus with over 2,900 academic staff including over 500 Professors and 17 Faculties.
ABU, Zaria has 3 Colleges of Agriculture, more than 6 Specialise centers,16 Research Institutes,106 Departments,
202 Doctorate Programmes,
125 M. Phil Programmes
256 Masters Programmes and
81 Postgraduate Diploma Programmes.
Other milestone accomplishments include;
94 Undergraduate Programmes
22 Long Vacation Term (LVT) Programmes,39 Diploma Programmes,9 Certificate Programmes,1 world-class distance learning Centre.
7000+ hectares of land
82.2% of Indigenous students
18.7% of foreign students
500,000+ Alumni.
The university also has a world-class printing press of
310 megawatts bandwidth among the leaps and bounds of the institution’s success stories in the academic world.
