,,,,,,Colleagues in FUT Minna protest.
By correspondent in Minna.
Students of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Gidan-Kwano main campus, along the busy Minna-Bida road on Monday, embarked on protest over the crushing to death of their fellow student and a commercial motorcyclist ‘okada’ by a truck in front of the university.
The Reporters reports that the tragic incurred Sunday morning when the driver of the sand-filled truck caused it to run into the side of student and crushed him and the okada man to death.
The deceased student, whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of this report was said to have lost his months ago.
Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent, said they protested due to the carelessness of the truck driver, making him to loose control of the heavy vehicle consequently, causing the tragic circumstance.
The students added that they were also not happy that the authorities of the university could not immediately bring the driver of the truck to justice.
They noted that despite road safety signs aimed at controlling speed, some drivers still by-pass the signs devices, adding that the driver swerved off the main road through the footpaths to meet the okada man and crushed him and the student to death.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mrs. Lydia Legbo for comments proved abortive as she did not pick when our correspondent called her, nor did she return the calls as at the time of this report.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger state command, DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun could not be reached also for his comments on the issue. He did not pick our correspondent’s call on him for confirmation.
