The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps,( So-Safe Corps), has arrested one Sanni Alhaji Ayuba for allegedly using fake military ID cards and insignia to hijack the arrest of suspected cultists in the state.
The Commander of the Corps, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, who disclosed this in a statement signed by the Corps’ Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander, Moruf Yusuf in Abeokuta, said Ayuba’s action is an impersonation aimed to tarnish the reputation of the military.
He said the suspect acted as an imposter and forcefully intervened to stop the arrest of some wanted cult boys at Adigbe, Opako in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Ganzallo, however, noted that the officers attached to the Directorate of Operation of the Corps, supervised by ACC Adesina Adedamola, arrested the suspected cult boys with excellent professionalism.
He added that the two suspected cultists were handcuffed, adding that to the dismay of the officers, Ayuba, who was at the scene, flashed a military Identity Card and stopped the officers from performing their lawful duty.
In the process, Ganzallo said, the suspects were hijacked and escaped with handcuff.
“The suspected fake military man was later arrested and thoroughly investigated while the other two accomplices who claimed to be naval officers, escaped arrest,” he said.
“Sanni Alhaji Ayuba with two other accomplices who claimed to be “Naval Officers” left the scene in a hurry and the officers of the corps handled the matter with excellent professionalism.
“The suspected fake military man was later arrested and thoroughly investigated while the other two accomplices who claimed to be naval officers, escaped arrest,” he said.
The Commander said that the suspect confessed to have impersonated as “military officer” upon interrogation.
According to him,the Corps recovered army camouflage scarf; fake army ID card; a jack knife: one itel phone; three ATM cards; one WASSCE ID card; one dog chain with arm pendants; one wristwatch; one glass.and one earpiece.
Ganzallo stated that the suspect and the exhibits had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Criminal Intelligence, Investigation Department (CIID), State Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.
