Nasarawa state government has warned that all structures, including houses constructed along water ways must be demolished.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mal. Yakubu Kwanta, who made the government position known during the state monthly sanitation on Saturday, explained that government intention was to prevent any catastrophy that might befall the people of the state in the event of flooding, especially at this critical moment of the rains.
Represented by state Chief Environmental officer,Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, the Commissioner also admonished the people of state against illegal dumping of refuse along drainage which he said is extremely Dangerous now that the rains has reached its zenith.
Mal. Kwanta who disclosed that a eighty six persons were arrested and prosecuted for violating violating the sanitation law.
He announced government plan to launch ” operation pick leather” to further boost the state cleanliness.
The commissioner commended shop owners in state for their strict compliance with the sanitation law, adding that over ninety eight percent of shops in the state remained close within the hours of the sanitation period.
He encouraged shop owners to keep up the tempo to further promote the total cleanliness of the state
The Commissioner explained that the ministry intends to organize a public enlightenment campaign to awaken the the conscience of the people on the need to always keep their environment clean for a healthy living.
He added that the planned operation is part of government efforts to ensure a healthy environment devoid of any filth.
