Excitement has trailed the introduction of Information Communication Technology (ICT) at the Benue State owned Transport Company known as ‘Benue Links’ Makurdi, north central Nigeria, following efforts to improve on its services to members of the public.
The Reporters observed that the premises of the company at Wurukum in Makurdi, had in recent times become a beehives of activities for construction project as both workers and passengers have expressed satisfaction with recent developments in the company.
Some passengers who spoke to our reporter commended management for better handling of travellers with Benue Links and physical development ongoing at the park.
Also, some workers said they were happier with improved welfare and regular payment of their salaries as well as ongoing efforts to make the park environment more conducive.
“Before now, wheelbarrow pushers used to convey passengers within and outside this park during rainfalls because of flooding. But, with the huge drainage under construction, we as well as passengers can move freely without help,” a worker said.
Comrade Tachia Gabriel, who is Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Technical and Civil Service Employees, Benue Links Branch, said the recent changes at the park had made everyone happy.
Gabriel said that the new acting General Manager, Alexander Fanafa, ought to be praised for bringing to bear his wealth of experience which has also birthed the ICT unit.
“We have introduced the ICT unit. Before now, we were analog and doing everything manually. Things have changed, we are computerising our vehicles now. Our data base has been established.
“We’re moving onto online booking before December this year. Next, we have a very big mechanic workshop here which we are working to improve for the benefit of the public and so we can generate revenue,” he posited.
