The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has stressed the need for better welfare for personnels.
Lagbaja, made this known while declaring open the Nigerian Army Project Management Workshop at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) in Makurdi, Benue State.
He noted that the objectives of the workshop are in line with his desire to improve the welfare of Nigerian Army officers and soldiers, stressing that he will support all measures that seek to better the living and working conditions of personnel.
“Let me use this opportunity to reiterate my Command Philosophy, which is to ‘Transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.
“Achieving this command philosophy is contingent upon a resolute psychological influence that instils willingness to engage in combat, which can be accomplished by exhibiting adequate care for the well-being of personnel,” he said.
The Army chief who was represented by the Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Doma in Nasarawa State, Major General Hillary Nzan, listed some of the intended welfare packages to include the construction rehabilitation of facilities across Nigerian Army formations and units, including accommodation, office complexes, training schools and other support facilities in the barracks.
Lagbaja appreciated the Commander Corps of Engineers for the sacrifice of Nigerian Army Engineer officers and soldiers in the fight against insecurity.
“Indeed, the contribution of the Nigerian Army Engineers had been instrumental to the successes of the Nigerian Army in fighting insecurity in Nigeria,” he added.
In his welcome remarks, the Coordinator, Nigerian Army Special Projects, Major General Shamsudeen Shafaru, posited that the implementation of outcomes and recommendations following previous workshops has gone a long way in reshaping the capacity of Engineer officers in project execution, supervision and delivery.
He said that the Nigerian Army Special Projects has continued to enjoy effective supervision effort by Engineer formations across the Country through the Corps Commander’s guidance.
On his part, the Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Philip Eromosele, expressed confidence that at the end of the workshop, all resolutions and recommendations would be fully implemented to improve on the capacity of Nigerian Army Engineers officers in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command philosophy.
Meanwhile, the Project Management Workshop would feature several presentations, discussion sessions and a demonstration in consonance with its theme and objectives, targeted at updating participants on common risk management practices in construction work, which goal is ensuring safety and efficient use of project resources within the Nigerian Army.
