The Managing Director, Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has expressed satisfaction with the level and standard of work at the ongoing New-Bussa rehabilitation which will end the over 20 years of water crisis in the area, when completed.
The Managing Director made the observation while inspecting the on-going project at New-Bussa in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state, adding that restoration of water supply to the area is one of the dreams come through for HYPPADEC.
New-Bussa has for over 20 years been without potable water supply as the facility remained moribund until now that the HYPPADEC intervened, and as at today work is at 60 percent completion, the Managing Director said.
Yelwa called on the Contractors handling the project to double efforts to ensure completion on or before the end of October, 2023 deadline as arrangements were being made to commission the project when completed.
During the inspection, Yelwa who applauded the HYPPADEC governing council for the various initiatives across the benefitting states visited the high lift, low lift, administrative block, pumping stations and as well the ten million litres reservoir.
He expressed optimism that the well equipped water project will bring to an end potable water related challenges being faced by the people through effective distribution to more areas consisting of over 16,000 households.
Despite playing host to Kainji dam, one of the four hydro power producing stations in Niger state, Sadiq Yelwa revealed New-Bussa has no portable water and electricity and that is why HYPPADEC is intervening to end the difficulties faced by the people.
Similar intervention projects running into several millions of Naira, the Managing Director said is also on-going across the five other member states including; Yauri in Kebbi state, Kwara, Kogi, Benue and Plateau.
Speaking earlier, the Acting Managing Director, Niger state Water and Sewage Corporation, Engineer Gimba Yisa said that the project is not only timely but a wholistic rehabilitation that will stand the test if time if properly managed.
Engineer Yisa said the facility is well equipped with new pumps, high and low lifts, entire re-treatment unit, new booster station and general maintenance of pipelines for effective and efficient service delivery.
To ensure its sustenance, Yisa explained that the host community and stakeholders have been sensitized and mobilized on the mode of payment of water bills which is on a monthly basis and as well ensure they maintain and sustain of the project to the benefits of citizenry.
