Men suspected to be gunmen have killed three police officers Saturday night upon attacking a check point at a boundary between Abakailiki, the Ebonyi State capital and Enugu Expressway.
Our Correspondent gathered that the gunmen arrived the area in two Sienna buses and opened fire at the checkpoint, killing the three policemen.
Sources said that fourth policeman, who also was on duty was injured and is receiving treatment in a medical facility in Ebonyi.
The Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO for the Police Command in the state, Chris Anyanwu,in a statement, confirmed the incident.
He said:“Yesterday’s attack by unknown gunmen at Ebonyi/Enugu boundary took place at about 1808hrs.
“Three police personnel of Operation Safer Highway, fatally injured. Later confirmed dead.
“Hoodlums operated in two sienna vehicles, drove into the Check-point, opened fire on the policemen.”
Sources added that Saturday’s attack is the latest in the series of deadly attacks on the police and other security agencies in the South-east.
