Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has sympathized with the people in the state and across Nigeria on the challenges being faced to change the old Naira notes with the newly introduced ones.
Our Correspondent recalls that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had stated that the old N200, N500 and N1,000 currency notes would cease to be legal tender by January 31, 2023.
In his reaction, Ganduje in a statement on Friday signed by the Commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba, lamented the attendant consequences of the policy which has been affecting the people especially poor Nigerians.
He noted that the challenges was due to its timing and short transition period.
Garba qouted the Governor Ganduje as assuring that the state government was making frantic effort to collaborate with other stakeholders to see to the extension of the transition period to ease the hardship being experienced.
Ganduje,who noted that while the government, like most Nigerians, believed that the people were facing hardships following the naira redesign, passionately appealed to the CBN to extend the deadline.
On the current fuel shortage, the governor also urged the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) limited to ensure adequate supply and distribution of the commodity to Nigerians.
Ganduje further urged people in the state to remain calm, adding that appropriate measure would be taken to ameliorate the situation.
