The Vice-Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, has warned matriculating students of the institution against the use of drug abuse and bullying.
Ojediran gave the warning during the combined 18th and 7th matriculation ceremonies for undergraduates and postgraduate students of the university, on Saturday in Ota, Ogun.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 922 students, comprising of 48 postgraduate students, were matriculated for 2022/2023 academic session.
He noted that the warning had become necessary for the new students as the university has zero tolerance for drug abuse and bullying.
The VC said that the management of the institution had approved on-the-spot tests for substance abuse.
“Any student who tested positive would bear the full brunt of the prescribed punishment.
“In addition, the university would not, in any way, compromise on its rules and standards for any student,” he said.
Ojediran reiterated the commitment of the institution to train and make its graduates stand out as positive contributors to the society.
The VC implored the matriculating students to abide by the rules and regulations of the university to succeed in their academic pursuit.
“Staying within the rules and regulations means you are being processed to succeed in the society later in life,” he added.
Ojediran advised the new students to properly manage their time and be able to apportion due shares to their studies and other relevant activities.
He said that the ability to maintain that required balance would go a long way in making the difference between them and others.
The VC appealed to the parents to cooperate with the institution in training and moulding the students in fulfilling their dreams of a university education.
Ojediran said that the institution was licensed as the first private university in 2005 and had witnessed remarkable development and achievements.
