USA based Association relieves kogi flood victims, monarch urges complete dredging of River Niger

As many victims of 2022 flood in kogi state still recount sour experiences, the Ejeh of Ibaji in kogi state,His Royal Highness, Ajofe John Egwemi, has reiterated his call on the federal government to complete the dredging of the River Niger and embark on building dams as a long-term solution to the perennial flooding in Kogi state and Nigeria at large.

The Eje,who is also the Chairman, Ibaji Traditional Council in the state, renewed the call while receiving donation from Igala Association, USA, for flood victims in all the wards in Ibaji Local Governnent Area, Seedlings to be implemented by the Ibaji Unity Forum (IUF) organization, on behalf of Igala Association,USA.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, Igala Association, USA, Raphael Agbali, indicated that the payment check of N2.2 million was presented to the President IUF, Mr Stephen Ugbeda Uchola at the Ejeh Ibaji palace in Idah.

Chief Egwemi prayed for all donors and passed the cheque on behalf of Igala Association, USA, President, Mrs. Teresa Edoja, the board of trustees and individual donors from Igala Association USA.

He lauded the collaboration of traditional rulers, catholic and other faith-based non-governmental organizations and all people of goodwill in responding to the humanitarian disaster in the area..

The traditional ruler appealed to Igala Association, USA, and all privileged organizations to use their vantage position in making the clarion call for government and global multilateral agencies to speedily commence infrastructural, ecological and human development projects to avoid the level of human suffering experienced in the low-lying riverine areas in the state recently.

Our Correspondent recalls that no fewer than 600 hectres of farmlands, hundreds of houses destroyed, thousands of house holds rendered homeless and some lives lost in the state while the 2022 devasitating flood lasted.
