Morocco on Saturday, lost to Croatia 2-1 in the semi finals of the World Cup but took Africa to fourth position, the first of its kind by any African nation in 92 years history of the global soccer tournament.

According to google, the first-ever World Cup was held in 1930 with Uruguay winning the title. It was the first and only edition of the World Cup where no qualification was held but an invitational competition open to all FIFA affiliated nations.

Uruguay were selected as the host nation of the first-ever football World Cup and emerged the first-ever World Champion, beating Argentina in the final 4-2.

Commenting on Morocco’d feat in a telephone interview with our Correspondent in Lokoja, a former manager,Kogi United FC of Lokoja, Adams Yahaya commended Morocco for making Africa proud in such a global soccer competition.

He recalled that though Moroccans claimed they were not Africans at a point in time, they eventually dropped the thought and “today, they are the pride of Africa in terms of World Cup”.

Yahaya, who attributed Morocco’s historic feat to well organized football administration, stressed the need for the amendment of the law of the Nigeria Football Federation,NFF, to enable more people participate in the election of NFF officials.

“When this is done, I am optimistic that one day, Nigeria will also carry Africa to enviable position in world cup, even beyond Morocco’s performance,”he said.

Yahaya argued that such process would also bring in more people who knew their onions in football administration to turn around football administration for the better for the country.

He regretted that Nigeria could not qualify for the world cup because of crises in the NFF, then, characterised by politics of various interest groups which did not allow the federal government to know what was happening with a view to providing timely solution.

Meanwhile, at the 90-minute encounter of final of the global soccer tournament which recorded 3-3 goals, the two teams went into penalty kick during which Argentina scored 4 goals and France, 2 goals.
