Insecurity:Military kill 8 insurgents in Niger

The military at the weekend said it repelled insurgent attack on its barracks in New Bussa, Borgu Local Governnent Area of Niger state, North Central Nigeria,by killing eight members of the insurgents in the battle. 

This is contained in a statement issued, on Sunday,by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

The general also stated that four terrorists were killed during operations by the troops in Maidaro, Kagi Hill, Kusharki, and Anguwan Madaki in Birnin Gwari Local Governnent Area of Kaduna state.

He added that two AK 47 rifles with two rounds of 7.62mm Special, one automatic pump action gun with three cartridges, six dane guns, three locally fabricated pistols with one 9mm round and four motorcycles were recovered from the gunmen.

Nwachukwu qoted the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Faruk Yahaya, as commending the troops for their gallantry and urged them not to relent until terrorism and other criminalities were brought to an end in the North-West region.

Our Correspondent in Minna, Niger State,reports that the feat represents renewed efforts by the Nigerian army to rid the country of insurgents, especially in New-Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state.
 
The dare devil armed men were said to have attacked the Borgu Army barracks with the intention of rescuing their members in the military’s captivity, but met their waterloo as they were swiftly repelled the gallant soldiers who gunned down eight of the insurgents while others fled with injuries.

 
Our Correspondent further reports that the Saturday night through Sunday morning attack started brought the intruders face-to-face with soldiers who fearlessly defended the military fortress as they made their way to free their members captured by the Nigerian military.
 
The soldiers were said to have gallantly fought back as they quickly sent for back-up from the Nigerian air-force whose support helped in neutralizing the armed men.
 
“They came in their numbers, it was very late at midnight and as such, it was not that easy for anyone to know exactly the number of the attackers, but they were really dealt with”, a source,who asked for veiling of identity said.
 
The source further hinted that the soldiers had tightened up security around the barracks to forestall possible reprisal attacks.
