Nasarawa Governor increases law students’scholarship by 200%, grants,100%

Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule has increased scholarship for law students from the state from N100,000 to N300,00.

Similarly, the governor has since assumption of of office, settled accumulated students scholarship grants of seven years of #195 million.

The Executive Secretary, state Scholarships Board, Hajia Sa adatu Yahaya, disclosed this in Lafia on Wednesday at a media briefing.

According to her, the increase was taken
in view of the harsh economic situation being faced in the country with a view to cushioning the hardships confronting the students.

She said:”Nasarawa state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has announced the immediate upward review of students scholarship grants in order to cushion their hardships.

“Hitherto the current upward review of the grants, Law students were being paid the sum of one hundred thousand naira only (#100, 000.00) but it has been increased to N300,000.00 while that of other students now received #20,000.00 instead the former #10,000.00.

“Students with disabilities now collect #30,000.00 as against the previous , #20,000.00.”

Hajia Yahaya further disclosed that the state government was currently sponsoring five students abroad, studying courses such as, Nursing, Medicine, Engineering and Pilot amongst others.

The Executive Secretary said in an effort to ensure transparency in the payment of students grants, the Board had introduced the use of verve cards which each student benefiting from the state scholarship must posses and present at the point of payment before being paid.

She announced that the disbursement of the verve cards to successful benefitting 8,000 students would commence as from October 20 to November 4 2022.

Hajia Yahaya further stated that that the payment of the scholarship grants would soon commence at zonal levels, assuring that the board had taken stringent measures to avoid a situation where by the students stay for several hours before being paid their allowances.

She said additional man power would be added to ensure that while some were doing the clearance, others would be doing the payment to quicken the process.

The Executive Secretary commended the Governor Abdullahi Sule for being so compassionate on the plight of students in tertiary institutions in the state and assured him of the board’s loyalty and unflinching support to enable him achieve all his desired goals for the people of the state.
