The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress,ADC, Dumebi Kachikwu,has promised Nigerians that if he becomes their president next year, he would ensure that his administration invest heavily in youths for them to unleash their potential for self actualisation and national development, as critical segment of the country’s population and future of any society.
He gave the promise on Thursday when he held town hall meeting with supporters of the party in Lokoja as part of his campaign tour of states for the realisation of his political ambition.
According to the presidential candidate,Nigeria is in dire need of leaders who are conversant with the critical problems facing its citizens and are determined to provide lasting solution to them, through massive investment in human resources.
He identified such problems as unemployment, poverty and insecurity among others, adding that the party would enlist the collaboration of all Nigerians in the concerted effort to profer meaning solution to the nation’s myriad problems.
Kachikwu said ADC had made the people its focal point and would ensure that “Nigeria belongs to and works for the benefit of every Nigerian, irrespective of polical,economic social religious inclinations among others divisible expressions identified as factors causing cog in the wheel of progress of Nigeria.
He, however,critised the led for not asking the leaders critical questions with a view to putting them on their toes on how they are being governed, to ensure accountability in governance.
Kachikwu told women to stop receiving gifts from politicians and be made to be dancers during campaigns and youths to shun the lures by politicians to use them for selfish interest.
He called on all Nigerians to join hands with ADC in its rescue mission to safe Nigeria from its varied problems, such as insecurity,if given the mandate to govern Nigeria next year, adding the party respect them valued their contrubution in entrenching good governance.
Kachikwu said with investment in the intellectual and technical ablilities of youths, towards making them use their brains and hands, they would engage in viable business ventures, reduce unemployment, pay taxes,shun crime and honour other civic responsibilities that would boost the nation’s desired meaningful socio-economic and politicsl development.
Turning to Kogi State, the presidential candidate noted that with the abundant mineral and human resources the state is blessed with, there is no justification for it to be counted among the poorest states in Nigeria.
Kachikwu,who cited the rich vegetation,good climate and the presence of River Niger and Benue, believe the state should by now be a force to be reckoned with in terms of viable agricultural and food production that would have checked high price of food items and produce for other states of the federation.
According to him, it beats one’s imagination to realise that, while kogi state is blessed with mountains rocks, which provide ready made materials for the construction or repair of roads, “kogi is still confronted with bad roads.”
He called on electorate in the state to vote for ADC candidates in various elective positions for good governance, assuring them that the party “is blessed with the crop of leaders who know the real needs of the people and are determined to provide purposeful leadership for the realisation of their hopes and aspirations.
Our Correspondent reports that some of the people who spoke at the meeting identified unemployment, poverty and bad road as some of their major problems and called on ADC to find lasting solution to them,if given the mandate to lead the state or nation next year.
