New Kogi NSCDC commandant promises effective guard against kidnapping, cultism

Worried by the spate of kidnapping and cultism in secondary schools in the country,the new Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kogi State Command, Commandant Kayode Oyinloye, says the menace will not rear head in such educational institutions in the state.

He gave the promise on Monday at the headquarters of the Corps in Lokoja during his maiden meeting with Journalists.

Oyinloye, who was transferred from Zone F of the Corps, to take over from Commandant S. I Marafa, now in Alkwa Ibom state expressed concern over the rate at which secondary school students indulge in crime and criminality in the Nigerian society.

He also promised to strengthen the capacity of the female squard of the Corps, charged with the responsibility of manning secondary schools to check kidnapping, cultism and excessive behaviour of students.

Commandant Oyinloye said,” A lot of unexpected development is happening among students of secondary schools in the society today.

“Cultism that used to be rampart in higher institutions in the country, few years ago,has now descended to secondary schools and by extension, primary schools.

“We are planning to meet with the Commissioner for Educatuon, with a view to organising stakeholders meeting with the school proprietors, parents and even students and pupils on how to guard against crime and criminality in secondary school.

“From the meeting,we will get the feeling of the parents, proprietors, students, pupils, school management and governnent regarding their problems and how to find lasting solution to them to ensure peace.”

Fielding question from Journalists ,on what the Corps was doing to check petrol dealers selling fuel above the official pump price of N179 per litre, the commandant said he would meet with the dealers before enforcing the law on the sale of fuel in accordance with the new price.

Commandant,who promised to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor in safe guarding the nation’s critical infrastructure, solicited the cooperation of Journalists in achieving his assignment.

He, however, promised vandals of raw deal, adding that under his watch, they would not find it ease to carry out their nefarious activities in the state.
