The Police Command in Ogun State says it has nabbed a middle aged man,Dauda Bello, 54, for allegedly killing 71-year-old woman, Mesesi Adisa, sold her wrists and ankles to suspected ritualist in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made the disclosure in a statement he signed on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
The Police image maker added that the suspect was arrested on Thursday, following a sudden disappearance of the victim, who he said left home since June 8, 2022,and did not return home.
He said a relative of the victim had reported a case of a missing person at Sabo/Ilupeju police station, adding that the police quickly swung into action to unravel the circumstances surrounding the sudden disappearance of the woman.
“The case was later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, where technical and an intelligence-based investigation was embarked upon.
“In the course of the investigation, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team traced the last place the victim visited to be the house of the suspect at Olodo area of Imala.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to custody for investigation.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to have known the victim for quite some time now, and that they were both into the business of trafficking in children.
“He stated further that he invited the victim on that fateful day to discuss their usual business but on getting to his house, he discovered that the victim came with what he thought was a huge amount of money.
“This made him to hit the woman on the head with a heavy wooden stick, which made the woman unconscious after which he carried her unconscious body to the bush where he finally snuffed life out of her.
“The suspect further confessed that when he searched the woman’s body, he discovered that the victim only had the sum of N22,200 on her which he took with disappointment.
“Having realised that his aim of getting much money from the victim was in vain, he decided to cut off her two wrists and ankles, which he claimed to have been sold to somebody now at large.
“The suspect took the Police to the bush where he buried the victim in a shallow grave, the dismembered body has been recovered and deposited in the mortuary” he said.
The PPRO qouted the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, as commending the team for a thorough job,and ordered that the suspect be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner also directed that anybody, directly or indirectly involved in the case, should be brought to book.
