Suspected cultists murder undergraduate, communal clash claims farmer in Kwara

Some boys suspected to be cultists on Tuesday visited a house at Akerebiata area of Ilorin, capital of Kwara state, attacked one Mohammed Isiaka(23), a computer science student of the Open University Ilorin, shot him in the chest,a development that led to his death.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command in the state, SP. Okasanmi Ajayi, disclosed this in a statement available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Tuesday.

According to him, information got to the command to the effect that at about 1630hrs,some boys suspected of being cult group struck the area and killed their victim.

He said:”Policemen from C Division, who raced to the scene,on receipt of the information, took the victim to UITH where the victim was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

“The corpse of the victim has been deposited for autopsy.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, CP Tuesday Assayomo psc+, has ordered a discreet and result- oriented investigation into the matter.

“The good people of Kwara state,particularly the residents of the area, are advised to go about their lawful businesses as adequate security arrangements have been emplaced to forestall any revenge attack.

“The CP also assures the people that the perpetrators of the heinous act would be fished out and prosecuted.”

In another development,land dispute which happened between Iwo and Odo Ekun communities in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday, has led to the killing of a farmer and another critically injured.

Our Correspondent gathered that the two communities had been involved in age-long boundary dispute that had defied several interventions.

Sources said that a farmer from Odo Ekun who went to farm in one of the disputed areas was accosted and seriously beaten by some members of the Iwo community but the Odo Ekun community were able mobilise their members and rescued the farmer.

The ugly development was said to have escalated beyond reasonable proportion, leading to destruction of property and the killing of the farmer,whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of this report.

SP Okasanmi Ajayi, who also confirmed the development added that the Command had arrested six suspects had been arrested in connection with the case.

He assured that police had restored calm, adding that they were on ground to ensure peace in the two communities while investigation continued.
