Atiku emerges PDP candidate for 2023 presidential election

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP National Delegates Convention came to a peaceful note on Saturday in Abuja with 75-year-old former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the Party’s presidential candidate for 2023 presidential election.

Atiku,who polled 371 votes to defeat River state Governor Nyesom Wike,who scored 237 votes, former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki,70 votes,:Udom Emmanuel,38 votes, Anyim Pius Anyim,14 votes, Mrs Tari Diana Oliver, 1 vote and Sam Ohuabunwa, 1 vote.

In his victiry speech, Atiku commended the electoral process employed in the primary.

Atiku, who made six attempts at presidential election, described his victory as the making of another history, adding that “a history which we believe will bring about fundamental changes and also in our political processes.”

He stressed that his campaign would be built on five fundamentals which include unifying the country, describing himself as a unifier.

Atiku also promised Nigerians that he would work for the restoration of the unity of Nigeria and bring a sense of belonging to all Nigerians, deal decisively with the country’s security challenges and confront its economic problems among other promises.

He called on his co-contestants to cooperate with him, urging aggrieved members of the party to come back, assuring them that internal mechanism would be used to resolve all grievances in the party.
