Preparations are in advanced stage to introduce paid parking for motorists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The airport Manager/Regional General Manager North Central, Mr. KabirMohammed, stated this while speaking to the Executive members of the Abuja Transportation and Aviation Correspondents Association (ATACA).
He said this would bring sanity to the airport and address the problems of harassing and extortion of drivers who bring in passengers at the airport by touts.
According to him, the rowdy taxi drivers and the illegal businesses going on at the front of the departure hall at airport will also be addressed.
The airport manager also commissioned a taskforce which constitutes of himself and heads of departments to supervise the toll gate on a daily basis with the aim of managing the inflow of
traffic into airport, which is affecting the staff, airport users and passengers.
This effort has improved on the
situation to a great extent, making entry into the airport easier.
Mr. Mohammed, who was recently deployed to head the Abuja Airport on March 10, 2022, said he had proposed the relocation of the Mosque to a more comfortable location for easy vehicular
movement within the airport as well as expansion of the car park.
He said he was also proposing the introduction of shuttle buses for staff, stakeholders and airport users, as well as a staff welfare & recreation centre, adding that his introduction of staff weekly/monthly reporting had made positive impact on staff discipline and performance.
