An early morning Friday articulated vehicle fire accident has claimed at least,17 persons on Lagos-Ibadan highway in Ogun State with 14 of the victims burnt beyond recognition,according to the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State.
The Public Relations Officer for the Corps,Florence Okpe, who confirmed the story, said 14 of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
She further disclosed that the FRSC was able to identify one man, one woman and a girl, in the accident adding that the crash happened around 5a.m before the Isara bridge.
Okpe,who added that the articulated vehicle had a head-on collision with a Mazda bus, marked, ZT728 KLD, traced the the accident to route violation and dangerous driving, which resulted in a head-on collision and fire outbreak.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, described the crash as avoidable and stressed the need for drivers to exercise caution while on the wheel as well as obedience traffic rules and regulations.
He commiserated with the families of the victims and urged them to contact the FRSC office in Ogere for more information about the crash.
