The Rotary Club International on Monday in Ilorin donated Family Planning equipment and commodities to 10 selected Local Government Area of Kwara state.
Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation, Dr Khadijat Musah, the Assistant Governor of Kwara State Raotary Representative on Maternal, Child Health, said that the donation of hospital equipment had been ongoing for about a year across the country.
She stated that the organization was also involved in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Environment, Peace and Conflict resolution, Education and Literary among others.
According to her, the Rotary International is concerned about maternal and child mortality in the country, adding that the organisation decided to embark on reducing the high rate of death by such gesture.
“Rotary is doing something laudable, it is utilising money from members, all over the world, to make a difference among the people.
“Rotary has impact on Polio reduction, through awareness campaign and vaccines,” she said.
Musah added that the organization supported in updating training of medical doctors, nurses and midwives which she hoped would impact positively on mother and child health.
Speaking also, Dr Michael Oguntoye, the President of Rotary Club, Ilorin District 9125, explained that the organization was involved in series of humanitarian activities across the world.
According to him, Rotary is all about serving humanity, helping the needy and the indigent in the society.
He expressed optimism that the health equipment donated to the 10 LGAs would go a long way to help in the care of maternal and child health in the state.
Contributing, Dr Ayinla Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary, Kwara Ministry of Health, commended the humanitarian gestures from Rotary International.
He noted that the organisation was putting smiles on the faces of many citizens through its gestures.
Abubakar stressed the need to care for the indigent in the society, adding that failure to do so would create disruption in the social order.
Dr Oluwatosin Fakayode, the Director, Primary Health Care Development Agency of the Ministry of Health noted that maternal and child mortality remained high in the country, adding that the donation would contribute to reduction of such mortality.
He, therefore, pledged to ensure that the recipicient LGAs would make judicious use of the commodities and equipment.
