The Federal government has declared Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th December 2021 and Monday, 3rd January 2022 as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year Day.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister for Interior, disclosed this in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, on Wednesday morning in Abuja.
He said:“We must emulate the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on humility, service, compassion, patience, peace and righteousness, that His birth signifies.
“This will be the best way to portray Christ and celebrate his birth.”
Meanwhile, in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital and its environs, few parents were seen on Tuesday at few shops buying clothes and shoes for their children in preparation for the yuletide.
According to some of them in a separate interview with our Correspondent,the quagmire that hit the nation’s economy, coupled with the skyrocketing prices of food stuffs notwithstanding, they must “squeeze water out of rock” to make Christmas and New year meaningful for the children.
Many operators of shops where children’s materials are being sold in the area, decried lack of patronage,a developmnt they attributed to the mood of the economy’s economic reality for now.
