An appeal has gone to the three tiers of government and other private organizations in Nigeria to recruit female drivers in order to address the huge shortage existing in the road transportation industry.

The President, Female Drivers Association of Nigeria (FEDAN),Ambassador Eunice Odeghe,
made the appeal at its 2021 National Conference and Award ceremony, held in Abuja recently.
Ambassador Odeghe explained that studies revealed that a shortage of 80,000 drivers existed across the road transportation industry in 2021 alone, adding that women should be recruited to reduce the shortage.
She, therefore, encouraged all women, both young and old,to take up the business of transportation as a skill and economic venture to improve their family living standards.
The Guest Speaker on the occasion, Dr. Plangsat B. Dayil, Acting Director, Center for Gender and Women Studies, University of Jos, also advised the three tiers of government to further regulate the business of transportation in the country, to reduce abuses by unauthorized groups.
She also called on policy makers to involve more women in decision- making processes in order to cater for women interests in all ramifications.
Dr. Dayil also appealed to public infrastructure designers to make women friendly designs.
