FG suspends rehabilitation of Ganaja-Lokoja road til Dec.2021

Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has directed that the rehabilitation project on Lokoja-Ganaja road be suspende til the second week of December 2021.

The Federal Controller of Works in Kogi, Engr. Jimoh Kajogbola, who disclosed this in Lokoja on Sunday, said three contractors were initially awarded the rehabilitation work, adding that two new ones were later engaged to undertake emergency repairs.

He added that the Ministry had also directed contractors working on various road projects across Kogi State to suspend work as from second week of December till January, 2022.

Kajogbola said that the suspension was to allow free flow of traffic before, during and after the Yuletide,check gridlock, characteristic of festival periods and ease the suffering of travelers.

The federal controller of works said letters had been issued to concerned contractors handling various road construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, special and emergency repairs across the state to that effect.

He said that one out of the three contractors handling the Special Repairs work had completed his job, adding that the rest two were given warning letters to avoid further delay in the execution of the work.

Kajogbola, however,noted that the third portion of the Lokoja-Ganaja Special Repairs (Ch. 3+800 – Ch. 4+800 & Ch. 6+288 – Ch. 6+814), awarded to Messrs Frosh Nig. Ltd., had attained 100 per cent completion.

The second portion (Ch. 1+250 – Ch. 2+500),he said, awarded to Messrs. Aimuk Logistic Concept. Ltd. had reached 74.93 per cent completion.

The third part of the project (Ganaja Ch. 5+825- Ch. 6+350), being handled by Messrs Rufelis Investments Ltd. he further revealed, had attained only 38.56 per cent completion.

Kajogbola revealed that two new contractors had been engaged to handle emergency repairs of two critical portions of the Lokoja-Ganaja road.

According to him,Hamilton Corporate Business Ltd. is handling Lokoja-Ganaja Ch. 0+000 – Ch. 1+250 while UYK Nig. Ltd. was handling Ch. 4+800 – Ch. 5+825 adding that they both started work on Wednesday.

He expressed optimism that with the completion of the repair works on the dilapidated 7-kilometre dual carriageway linking Ganaja with Lokoja township, by first quarter of next year, the inhahitants of the area and motorists would be relieved.

The Reporters recalls that the rehabilitation of Ganaja-Lokoja road commenced November 2020.
