The Kogi State Chairman of the Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil & Gas, Northern States, Bishop Gabriel Simon Ojoka, said that 10,000 security personnel would be recruited to protect oil & gas installations in parts of the state against vandalism.
He disclosed this in Lokoja on Monday when he led some of his members on an advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Police in the state,Idrisu Dauda Dabban.
The Reporters recalls that the federal government has declared Kogi State as an oil producing state with all the benefits attached.
Bishop Ojoka said the planned recruitment was in line with the federal government’s directive to all the oil-producing states, adding that many host communities had complied with the directive.
The State Chairman, who sought security collaboration with the police, said the need for the recruitment was over due, adding that his mission for the visit to the police boss was also to ensure that the activities of the organisation was in line with security guidance.
He lauded the Federal Government for declaring Kogi as an Oil Producing State, stressing that the developmnt was a dream come true that would enhance the living conditions of the citizens of the state.
Bishop Ojoka disclosed that within the week, the group would hold peace meeting between Ibaji Oil Community in Kogi and their Anambra counterparts, on the way forward to embrace peace and shun all violent means of seeking redress.
He urged the communites in the two states to maintain peace in the course executing their activities, reminding them that “there cannot be any positive development in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.”
Receiving the group,the Police Commissioner urged communities in the two states to be guided by law in actions.
