The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, reassured that the Nation’s Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja and its environs are safe and highly fortified against invasion by bandits, despite the reported cases of kidnapping, the recent being the abduction of four staff members of the University of Abuja,

The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Mohammed Usman, who gave the assurance during an interactive session with Defence Correspondents in Abuja, declared that the Brigade was on guard and doing everything possible to rescue the abducted members of staff of University of Abuja and other victims of previous abductions

The Commander, represented by Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Okwoli, pointed out that the recent security issues in the FCT and environ did not suggest the collapse of security architecture in Abuja.

“Abuja is safe, there is no need to panic, we are deploying technology and other resources to protect lives and properties of residents. Search and rescue operation is on and very soon the abducted University Staff will be rescued,.”General Usman stressed.

He said that security operatives were on the trail of the fleeing bandits but appealed to residents and villagers to share credible and timely information with the Army and other Sister security forces to help in forestalling such security breaches.

Speaking on the ongoing stop and search operations at the entrances to the FCT, which caused heavy gridlock on Wednesday morning, causing many workers and motorists to turn back, the Brigade Commander, pleaded for the understanding of the members of the public, adding that the measure was being taken for security reasons

He disclosed that the military was acting on credible intelligence, adding that the checkpoints would be dismantled after the issues must have been adequately addressed.
