World Teachers’Day: FG approves #75,000 as stipend for Undergraduate students, NCE students to get #50, 000′

The Federal Government has approved #75,000 as stipend, per semester for students undergoing degree programmes in Education in Public Universities in Nigeria.

Also the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) students will get #50,000 as a stipend per semester as part of the deliberate effort of the government to attract best brains into the teaching profession as promised by President Muhammadu Buhari last year.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu, announced this on Tuesday, at the World Teachers’ Day Celebration held at Eagle Square Abuja.

Adamu, whose speech was read by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Encho said his Ministry would collaborate with States’ government to ensure automatic employment for the students on graduation.

The Recalls that World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5″ October since 1994, to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers which sets benchmarks as regards the rights and responsibilities of teachers.

It also sets standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.

The Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education TeachiPersonnel was adopted in 1997 to complement the 1966 Recommendation by covering teaching and research personnel in higher education.
With the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals 4 on eeducation among others.
