Niger loses 30 lives in fresh gunmen attack

More than 30 people have lost their lives at Kachiwe in Sarkin-Pawa, the headquarters of Munya Local Government Area of Niger state, following an attack by gunmen in the morning of Wednesday.

Our Correspondent reports that the latest attack came less than 24 hours after attempt to abduct the Emir of Kagara,Alhaji Ahmed Garba Gunna Attahiru in Rafi Local Government Area of the state,by another gunmen failed.

The gunmen, were said to have sneaked into Kachiwe village from their hideout from the boarder villages between Niger and Kaduna state to execute their plan, also ransacked the adjourning villages, according to sources.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who confirmed the attack, however,could not give details of the exact number of casualties and the efforts being made to end the siege.

The SSG assured the people that plans were on by the state government to rid the state of crime and other forms of criminality bedeviling the state.

He therefore appealed to Nigerllites to provide security agencies with credible information on how to end the siege.

Also, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Monday Bala Kuryas, confirmed the attacks, saying that investigations into the attacks had commenced with a view to tracking down the perpetrators.

“A team of policemen have been despatched to the affected communities to safeguard their lives and properties” Kuryas and solicited the cooperation of Nigerlites to provide the police with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals.

On the attack on the Emir’s of Kagara palace and the failed attempt to abduct him, the police boss revealed that three people were killed, adding that efforts were on to track the invaders.
