Palpable fear has gripped the people of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state, following the abduction of the District Head of Wawa in Borgu Emirate Council, Dodo of Wawa Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, by suspected armed bandits.

Our Correspondent gathered that the Dodo was abducted as he was about retiring for the day in his palace on Saturday at about 10 p.m by the gunmen, numberig over 15 and in a convoy of motorcycles.

The invaders were said to have stormed the area and shot sporadically into the air, apparantly to scare the villagers.

While some were positioned in strategic locations, others were said to have entered the palace and whisked the traditional away on motorcycle.

The abduction of Aliyu has thrown his subjects into state of confusion and uncertainty, considering the frequency at which armed bandits have renewed their operations, especially along border town with Benin republic.

As the people of Wawa, a community of about 12 kilometres to New Bussa where one of the Nigerian Army barracks is located, continue to lament the abduction of their traditional ruler, our correspondent learnt that the abductors were yet to contact Dodo’s family as at the time of this report.

The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Niger Command, ASP Wasiu A Abiodun, could not be reached for comments.

The Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, however, confirmed the abduction.

He expressed the state government’s preparedness to deploy the combined security forces, to go after the perpetrators and ensure quick rescue of the traditional ruler, unharmed.
