Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state and Chairman, Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) has challenged his colleagues to engage in projects they would be remembered for and do less on personal aggrandizements.

Fayemi was in Minna, Niger state capital on Tuesday at the instance of his Niger state counterpart, Alhaji Abubarkar Sani Bello, to commission reconstructed and rehabilitated Bosso estate road network.

In an interview shortly after the commisioning, Fayemi also advised his fellow governors to work hard to leave behind legacies that would outlive, in line with the policies and programmes of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

Governor Fayemi said, “Government and governance is always not about what we claim or reported by the media, but by embarking on projects that is not only needed but also appreciated by the citizenry and less on personal aggrandizements”.

Describing Governor Bello as having done his best to improve on the people’s immediate needs, notwithstanding limited funds at his disposal, Fayemi further said, “I can see the passion of your Governor to the interest of the citizenry.

“In line with President Muhammadu Buhari that we attend to the immediate needs of the people by ensuring that we resuscitate and rehabilitate old and new roads, not leaving out other administrative needs of the people”.

The Governor nevertheless reminded his fellow Governors on the need not to neglect their primary responsibilities of; improving on the education and health sector of their respective states while also not forgotten the pensioners who had served the states meritoriously.

On his general assessment of the performance of his colleagues as the Nigerian Governors Forum Chairman, Fayemi told journalists that, “All our governors are trying their best, doing what they were elected to do, notwithstanding individual peculiar challenges”.

Fayemi also told journalists that the reasons for the NGF was basically to ensure they live up to expectations, working for the common interests of the electorate, adding that he was happy that most of the governors had not deviated from doing just that.

“We try to live by the essence of forming the Nigerian Governor’s Forum. We meet, reflect on a lot of things and also learn from each other, peculiarities of challenges before the various states and take into considerations the fact that what Ekiti people need may not be what Niger people need”.

Governor Kayode Fayemi was later conducted round the rehabilitated/reconstructed Bosso estate roads by his host, Governor Sani Bello before his final departure from Minna, the state capital.
