PPFN GETS NEW ACTING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) has appointed Dr Abubakar Haruna Okai as its Acting Executive Director,as contained in a notification letter signed by the Acting President of PPFN, Mrs Wasilatu Saulawa, dated July 28, 2021, with reference No: PPFN/HC.21/X/224.

A copy of the letter addressed to the Regional Director, IPPF, Nairobi, Kenya, was made available to our correspondent.

“I am pleased to inform you that, at the 91st meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), held on 28th July, 2021, NEC appointed Dr Aku Abubakar Haruna Okai as the Acting Executive Director in line with our Personnel Policies and Procedure Manual (PP&PM).

“He replaces the late Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Ibrahim, who died in a ghastly motor accident on 11th July, 2021” in Abuja, Saulawa said.

The Reporters reports that until his new appointment, Okai was the Director of Advocacy, Business Development and External Relations of the PPFN and headed the Programmes Department at a time.

He formally joined the organisation in 2007, after serving as a volunteer Medical Doctor in 1999, during which period he facilitated the HIV/AIDS programmes, including accelerated ARV drugs, care and support, Reproductive Health, including family planning.

Okai,a Distinguished Medical Practitioner, (DMP), holds a B.M, B.Ch (1988) from the University of Jos; MPH from ABU Zaria (2006), and a Diploma in Health System Management, Galilee, Israel (2009).

The appointee,who did his NYSC in 1990/91 at the ECWA Eye Hospital, Kano, is bringing his more than 30 years medical and surgical practice experience in private and public sectors in urban and rural areas of Nigeria to bear on his new assignment

Okai, who is married with four children, loves Lawn tennis, reading and Chess as hobbies.

PPFN is a foremost non-for profit organisation promoting and complementing the Nigerian Government efforts in delivering reproductive healthcare services.

It is an accredited member association of IPPF present in all 36 states of Nigeria and FCT, providing excellent quality integrated sexual, reproductive healthcare; maternal, new-born and child health services.
