The Okene-Auchi road.
Barely a week after the Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr.Abubakar Ohere, called on Federal government to order contractors rehabilitating the Ganaja road in the state back to the road,the Chairman, Okene Local Government, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad followed suit but this time around, on Okene-Auchi road.
The chairman made the call on Monday when he led his cabinet members and security officers to inspect the road during which he provided palliative measures to ease traffic jam.
He called on the Minister of Works, Mr Babatunde Fashola to immediately direct the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to provide sustainable palliatives measures, as a short-time solution, to ease the suffering of motorists and other road users on the road.
He also pleaded with the contractors to hasten work on the construction of Okene-Auchi standard dual carriageway.
Eng.Muhammad described the condition of Okene-Auchi road as absymal,a development he noted had caused hardship to motorists, exemplified by long hour traffic-jam and avoidable accidents, some of which he said had resulted in loss of lives and properties.
The Reporters,an online news medium gathered that two patrol trucks, laden with fuel, had fallen on the road causing serious hardship and tension to motorists and residents of the area, a confirmation of the chairman’s clarion call to put the in a motorable shape.
According to Muhammad, Auchi-Okene road is the main federal road that connects the north with the south-south and the eastern part of the country, in addition to being a major means of transportation to Dangote and BUA cement companies,same to movement of petroleum products from Benin depot.
Meanwhile, our Correspondent reports that Ganaja road remained in its statusquo,as a rehabilitating road depicting sorry state of existence, as at June 22 that this report was published.
Motorists said the continued deplorable nature of Ganaja road had left them with untold hardship, better imagined than said.
