The Founding father of Zambia and former president of the country, Kenneth David Kaunda, is dead.
Sources said that the 97yr old died at a Military medical facility in the country on Thursday.
The Reporters reports that the development has thrown the Southern African nation and indeed Africa into mourning.
Kenneth David Kaunda, also known as KK, was a Zambian politician who served as the first President of Zambia from 1964 to 1991. Kaunda was the youngest of eight children born to an ordained Church of Scotland missionary and teacher, an immigrant from Malawi, according to Wikipedia.
He was Blborn on 28 April 1924 Chinsali, Zambia.
KK Kaunda, who ruled Zambia for 27 years,the longest political leadership of that country until the was voted out in 1991,was also one of the foremost champions of the success of the tortous fight against the obnoxious Apartheid regime in South Africa.
Apart from his contribution to the social, economic and political development of his country and southern Africa, KK Kaunda also contributed to intellectual development of Africa.
He was the author of “Zambia Shall Be Free”, a book that gained popularity among secondary school students in Nigeria in the 70s and mid 80s.
