I don’t want to die, I need N10m for spinal cord surgery— Kogi undergraduate pleads

Suleiman Hassan,a 35-year-old undergraduate and an indigene of Kogi State who sustained spinal cord injury from an autocrash motor, has appealed to members of the public for financial assistance to enable him under go spinal cord surgery.

In a statement, a copy of which is made available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Thursday, Suleiman said
his plea became imperative as the management of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja “is threatening to forcefully discharge him to enable him seek medical attention elsewhere.”

He described the development as most unfortunate, adding that “he doesn’t have the money for the surgery.”

A visit to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja by the Nigerianpost showed Suleiman reeling in excruciating pain and begging for assistance to enable him undergo thea surgery.

The Reporters gathered Suleiman, a final year veterinary medical student of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,is an indigene of Kogi State from Kogi Local Government Area of the state.

He said he was involved in
Road Traffic Accident on Abuja-Lokoja High Way when coming back from Zaria on 18, June, 2013vduring which he sustained Spinal cord injury and was rushed to Federal Medical Centre,Lokoja.

He added,”The Hospital Management of the FMC Lokoja are asking me to vacate the hospital. According to the Management, I have overstayed and that the hospital lacks facilities to conduct the spinal cord surgery.

“I’ve done a plastic surgery that was successful. I was able to pay part of my hospital bills from the previous support I got.

“The hospital, presently, has forcefully discharged me and want me to go back home or to any hospital where the spinal surgery could be done.

“I want to use this medium to solicit for from well meaning citizens to support and to help save my life.

“About N10 million is required for the surgery and rehabilitation.

Those who spoke with our Correspondent described Suleiman’s condition as pathetic, adding that it called for urgent financial support assistance to save a soul.
