Senator Joseph Funsho Obasaju, who represented Kogi West Senatorial district in the second republic in 1983 is dead, aged 75.
The news of the death of the distinguished Senator was announced by his younger brother, Barrister Temitope Obasaju in Ilorin, adding that the deceased died in Ilorin on March 11.
The Barrister described his late brother as “a distinguished personality who had the opportunity of representing Kabba/Bunu State Constituency between 1979 and 1983 at the Kwara State House of Assembly before he was elected into the Senate in 1983 and barely three months, the military took over the leadership of the country.
“Senator Obasaju will be remembered for his good deeds to Kabba Community, Okun nation, Nigeria and humanity at at large,”he said.
The Reporters recalls that Senator Obasaju was also a seasoned educationist in Kwara state before joining politics.
Born in May 1946 in Kabba; the late Senator was a product of St. Augustine’s College, Kabba 1958-63; Barewa College, Zaria 1964-65; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria 1966-70; where he obtained a Bsc degree.
He also attended University of Ibadan 1971-72 for his Post Graduate Diploma in Education.
He was Secondary School Principal from 1973 – March 1979.
A sports enthusiast, late Obasaju was a member, Kwara State Sports Council,Chairman Kwara State Youth Council; Member, Drug Control Committee, Member, International Year of the Child Committee.
Accomplished in languages, the deceased was married with children.
On political front, the deceased was elected on the platform of UPN for Kabba/Bunu Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
