No fewer than 35 vehicles were impounded on Monday by the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide for lacking speed limit devices.
Ogungbemide disclosed this after the Corps sensitized motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, on the need to install “speed governors’’ in their vehicles.
He said the operation was in tune with the directive of the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, who had noticed increased number of fatalities during the festive period.
” We have been able to arrest 35 vehicles, this morning, in respect of speed limit device.
“We are not going to release those vehicles, even after the payment of fines by their owners until they install speed limit devices in them,’’ he said.
Ogungbemide advised drivers to be more careful on the steering by obeying all traffic rules, regulations and to comply with COVID-19 protocols.
He stressed the need not to make the transportation sector of the economy agent of spreading COVID-19.
The Lagos State Coordinator, Special Marshals, Mr Sola Olojede, said 100 of his colleagues participated in the enforcement of the speed limit to complement the efforts of the FRSC in reducing accident on road.
He said that although special marshals were not been paid for the job because theirs was avoluntary service, yet they faced embarrassment with some motorists in carrying out their duties.
The state coordinator pleaded with motorists not to speed but observe all traffic rules.
