The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe and his Iyin-Ekiti counterpart, the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeniyi Ajakaiye, on Friday tasked the Federal Government to look into the Nigeria’s porous borders which they alleged aided the activities of Kidnappers across the country.
The royal fathers gave the advice during the maiden royal visit of the Oluyin to the Ewi-in-Council at the palace of the Ewi in Ado-Ekiti.
The Reporters, an online publication, recalls that the Oluyin was presented with the staff and instrument of office on September 18, while Iyin-Ekiti is located in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of EKiti state.
The Ewi of Ado said majority of those that allegedly escaped from the Kidnappers relayed their gory experience which were not good enough, noting that most of the kidnappers were not Nigerians.
“Those escapees revealed that most of the kidnappers are foreigners, hence we should ensure that our forests are no longer habitable for foreigners, especially the unfriendly ones.
“Aside that, the goverment needs to look into the area of unemployment, especially among our youths. Ekiti State alone produces many graduates yearly but there is no work for them at the end. There is no single industry in Ekiti which makes employment even more difficult.
“I know that state government is trying very hard on this with all the various empowerments and pallatives that made available, but I urge government to redouble it’s efforts.
“Everybody should be security conscious, report any stranger that seen in our environment, the issue of security is now for everybody to play his or her part and should not be left alone in the hands of the government, the Ewi urged.
Also, the Oluyin, while corroborating the Ewi’s position, advised government to restructure the security agencies for optimal performance.
He said that government should look into making graduates the entry point into the Nigerian Police and also localize the force.
He said that when degree becomes an entry point into the Police Force and the instruction becomes localised, it would be easy for government to manage the personnel better.
According to the monarch, the police men and women would they work more effectively because they would understand their terrain better than when a non indigene, who doed not know the terrain is posted to the villages.
