Retired AVM Kingsley Lar, has urged young pilots and other military persomnel in Nigeria to be hard working and dedicated in the discharge of their constitutional mandate.
Lar gave the advise while reviewing a book, titled ‘Wings of Distinction, Memoirs of a Fighter Pilot, at the Sanni Abacha Hall, National Defence College (NDC), on Friday in Abuja.
He said that having gone through the 22 chapter of the book, he found the work of a very brilliant retired officer, who had refused to be tired.
“The book is highly simplified, life touching lessons, dedication, very rich and in depth about his experiences as a pilot officer.
“very educative, entertaining, full of humour that I think every upcoming pilot officer, the other military personnel, and even the migeneral public need as human being,”he said.
Lar also noted that what exited him most in the book was the emphasis the author laid on the unity of the country.
“The author schooled in the North, in short most part of his youthful lige in the Norhern part of 6he country, even though he was from the Eastern part of the country.
“The book dwells so much on the unity of the country, and his special carreer as pilot.”
Lar also advised fledgling pilot officers and other military personnel to emulate the author of the book, not only as airforce officers, but also as a guide in their respective endeavours.
Earlier, the Chairman of the ocassion, Dr Suleimam Adamu, the Minister of Water Resources, corroborated the reviewer of the book, urging young pilots to emulate the life time of the as pilot by picking a copy of the book and l go through thoroughly as they go about discharging their responsibilities.
He also urged them to be discipline, dedicated, hard working,committed as well as love for their country as military personnel.
He commended the author of the book, for his wisdom in putting the good work together.
“I have no doubt that the book will go a long way in inspiring not only the upcoming pilots, but the entire military personnel.
“I wish him the very best as he bows out of the service, having meritoriously served the nation in his best capacity, “he said.
Also, the Special Guest of Honour of the ocassion, Dr Ogbomnaya Onu, said having gone through the book, he was convinced that it would go a long way in aspiring the lifetime of the upcoming pilots and even the military as a whole.
“My takeaway from the book centeres on two areas. First, his life time as a pilot officer, the good, the bad and the ugly aspect of the job.
“Secondly, it dwells so much on the unity of the country.The author schooled in the Northern part of the country, and makes so many friends in the zone, as a military officer in the zone.
“So, this is a great lesson that together we can make this country work again, as a cooperate indivisible entity. ”
The author of the book, Retired AVM Christian Chukwu, said that what motivated him to write the book , was that, having gone through the ups and downs as a military officer, the best way to appreciate God was to put it in writing.
Chukwu added that the other motivational factor was the belief by some generations that so much believe that “you must know somebody or godfather before attaining any height in one’s professiom.”
“I’m particularly motivated to write the book, to show that one can actually rise to the peak of one’s career by being diligent, believe in who you are, you will definitely get there.
“So, it is actually a message to the youth, young professionals that they must continue to be focused in their chosen career, that way, they will get there,”he said.
