SDP sets for Kogi council poll, fields over 200 candidates——Chairman

Kogi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party(SDP) says it is prepared for the forth coming council polls slated for December this year in the state.

The Chairman of the party in the state,Mal. Mukhtar Atimah, stated this in a statement he sent to the Reporters,an online publication in Lokoja on Friday.

According to him, party will be fielding 239 candidates in 21 local government areas of the state for the Chairmanship and councillorship positions for the exercise.

He assured the electorate of the capacity of its candidates being presented for the election to win election, on the condition that all parameters meant to ensure transparent election, among others, were used in the conduct of the exercise.

Atimah said: “If the electoral umpire is will be fair and Just, then, SDP is confidence that its candidates for the forthcoming local government election in the state will win their election with ease.

“When that happens, We shall ensure that the mess at the local government level of governance becomes a thing of the past as we shall ensure good governance, particularly in terms of prompt and full payment of the salaries and other emoluments of council workers.

” Our dream is to ensure that the council workers receive their full salaries as and when due, coupled with the execution of developmental projects and to curb the high rate of insecurity, especially in the rural areas of the state.”

” These will boost the morale of the workers, enhance their productivity and bring about the much desired peace and realistic development at the third tier of government in the state.
