I will introduce fitness regime in Interior Ministry to boost productivity–Belgore

The new Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, has promised to set up a fitness regime through the promotion of extra-curricular activities would take place to enhance staff performance in line with the ministry’s mandate.

The Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Mohammed Manga, dislosed this in a statement in Abuja.

He qouted Belgore as having made the promise when he took over the mantle of leadership of the ministry from Mrs Georgina Ehuriah-Arisa,who retired after 36 years of public service.

“I will set up a fitness regime in the ministry through the promotion of extra-curricular activities to bring out the sportsman in you.

“To this end, I intend to ensure a monthly walking-jogging exercise in the ministry for everyone to keep fit, to enable you deliver on the ministry’s mandate which is ensuring internal security and citizenship integrity,” Belgore said.

He, however,lauded the exploits being achieved in Information/Communication Technology (ICT) in the ministry.

Belgore also promised to further improve on staff competence in ICT, through the provision of additional gadgets and working tools for enhanced work performance.

He commended Ehuriah-Arisa for her contributions to the successes achieved by the Ministry.

The new permanent secretary described her as a model of efficiency and urged civil servants to emulated her.

Belgore assured that he would build on the legacies of staff welfare, efficient service delivery and excellence as demonstrated by Ehuriah-Arisa during her tenure in office.

Earlier, Ehuriah-Arisa called on members of staff of the ministry to to support her successor by putting in their best.

“Don’t compromise or derail the system, support your principals, the new Permanent Secretary and the minister to achieve the deliverables of the present administration in line with the mandate of the ministry,” she said.

She noted that Belgore had the wealth of knowledge and experience, adding he was capable of taking the ministry to “the next level.”

Ehuriah-Arisa also urged the staff and services not to let down the gaps, noting that every aspect of the mandate given to the minister was distributed among the departments and services under the ministry.
