Tragedy struck in Ghana during weekend when two men allegedly committed suicide by hanging due to what police described as sequel to depression and mental challenge respectively, according to Daily Guide.
Daily guide said investigation conducted by the police, one of the deceased had a history of mental illness while the other was suspected to be depressed according to police investigation.
It added that the bodies of Roy Kwasi Wilson, 41, and Samuel Ofori Agyapong, 54 were, retrieved at Madina and Fise respectively, hanging in their respective rooms.
Sources said Wilson,s family corroborated police findings, adding that the deceased had a history of mental illness.
Narrating the incident to the Daily guide, Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer ,DSP Efia Tenge, said a gentleman from Teshie, reported to the police at Madina, that at about 7:30 a.m, he visited his brother Wilson at Madina and found the brother dead, hanging on a rope in his room.
The police image maker added that the police proceeded to the scene and saw a young man hanging on a rope from his crossbar, with his feet off the ground.
She further disclosed that the body was examined after which it was removed and deposited at the police hospital Morgue
DSP Tenge said that the following day, Amasaman police received information from a complainant, the brother-in-law of Agyepong about his death.
The police PRO said that the complainant told her that he went to his brother-in-law’s room and found him hanged on a hook of a ceiling fan, tied with a nylon sponge.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 800 000 people die by suicide every year, saying that for each suicide, there are more than 20 suicide attempts.
The organisation further disclosed that suicides and suicide attempts had a ripple effect that impacted on families, friends, colleagues, communities and societies.
The global organisation, however,said suicides were preventable but stressed that much could be done to prevent suicide at individual, community and national levels.
