The Kano state says there will be no Sallah festivities in the state, according to the Commissioner for Information,
Muhammad Garba.
Garba made the disclosure while speaking with journalists after the council meeting held at the Government House, Kano.
He said the cancellation of the festivities was part of efforts to consolidate on the success achieved in the fight against COVID-19.
He said the state government, however, approved the conduct of congregational prayers across the state under strict observance of safety protocol to be supervised by government officials.
The Commissioner said: “All the five Emirs in the state would go to the Eid Prayer Ground in their respective domains in motor vehicles, while there would be no visit to Shettima House. There would be no gathering for Hawan Daushe, Hawan Nassarawa and other traditional outings in the Emirates.
“Government would assist in the provision of safety materials that include face masks and hand sanitizers as well as ensure strict observance of social distancing at the praying grounds.
Duaglobalnews recalls that Kano state recorded its first case of the six months old novel Coronavirus on April 11 with rising deaths relating to the deadly virus.
Though the state government said the strange deaths were from other causes other than the coronavirus, it has so far recorded 1,430 COVID-19 cases as at the time of this report.
