Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, Acting Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, has called on contractors handling seven Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) projects worth over N953 million in the institution to exhibit highest level of competence and professionalism.
Usman made the call on Tuesday in Lokoja during the presentation of “Award Letters” to the deserving contractors who emerged victorious after competitive bidding process for the seven Tetfund projects.
The acting rector also urged the contractors to adhere strictly to the contract terms and specifications saying the management was determined to change the narratives of abandoned TETFund projects in the school.
He commended Tetfund’s magnanimity in approving the seven legacy projects aimed at enhancing teaching and learning in the institution adding that the institution had received the first stanche of fund for the projects.
He said:”We are taking meticulous steps to ensure that the projects are properly executed and to portray our seriousness as we would not allow anything to hinder timely completion of these projects.
“The era of abandoned projects has gone forever in this institution. The previous experiences with the contractors will not be tolerated . We are determined to ensure that any kobo spent on projects must be accounted for to the letter,
” I therefore advise you (Contractors) to liaise with the consultant at every stage of the project to avoid running foul of the specifications. If you follow the standard you will not have problems with us” He warned.
Usman disclosed the completion of the hosting of internet services within the campuses to aid e-learning programme as part of measures to address the adverse effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
The rector assured that cultism would be stamped out from the polytechnic saying, “We will pursue them to wherever they are and rid the system of their presence.”
Duaglobalnews reports that six successful contractors were presented with the award certificates for the seven projects by Musa Salau, Lead Consultant, Gimba and Partners, the consulting firm handling the projects.
The projects include, construction and furnishing of academic staff office block awarded TopWorth Integrated Services Limited at N237.3 million; construction.
Others are;furnishing of studios and exhibition halls for School of Arts Design and printing awarded to Kips Engineering Limited at N121.9 million.
Construction and furnishing of classrooms studios and offices for School of Environmental Technology awarded to Hamif Real Estate Limited at N136 million; construction of 200-seat capacity Twin Lecture Theatre, were awarded to Victenik International Agencies Limited at N196.8 million.
The projects also include construction and furnishing of laboratory and workshop building for school of applied Sciences awarded to Urban Dimensions Limited at N125 million naira and construction and furnishing of school of Sciences awarded to Victenik International Agencies Limited at N110 million.
The last is the Procurement and Installation of Furniture and Water Storage Facilities for School of Sciences contract awarded to Suliepat Nigeria Limited at N26.6 million.
The contracts have completion period of between 12 weeks and 42 weeks for the projects.
