The celebration of Eid-el-fitr was marked peacefully in Okene town in kogi central senatorial district to of kogi state on Sunday, Duaglobalnews reports.

The correspondent of the online publication reports that Muslim faithful who trooped to the Eid praying ground for the two Rakat prayer in Okene, conducted themselves in an orderly manner.

Some of them were spotted exchanging pleasantries and discussing the imperative of peace in Ebiraland, the state and the at large in addition to offering prayer for peace in Ebiraland, the state and Nigeria at large.

Duaglobalnews recalls that few days to the celebration of Eid-el-fitr, security chiefs in the state held a crucial meeting with religious leaders, especially those of the two prominent religious sects in Okene.

The meeting centred on the the need for their members to allow peace to reign supreme in the area, especially during the just concluded eid-el-fitr.

The police command, however, told the religious leaders concerned to call their members to order, to ensure peaceful celebration of the religious festival or be ready to face appropriate sanction in case of any crisis emanating from the festival in the land

Two Fridays ago, the central mosque, Okene witnessed uneasy calm over which of the two sects should produce the next chief imam of Ebiraland to lead prayer.

This prompted the meeting between religious stakeholders, prominent ebira indigenes and some members of the traditional institution in Ebiraland in lokoja to sue for peace over the issue of imamship in the land.

At the meeting held in lokoja, the stakeholders resolved that henceforth, the next chief imam of Ebiraland would emerge through democratic process while Alhaji Salisu Abere was appointed as acting chief imam of Ebiraland.

His acting appointment was sequel to the death of Sheikh Musa Galadima, the substantive chief imam of Ebiraland about a year ago.

Speaking with Duaglobalnews in a telephone interview in Lokoja, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, DSP William Aya said the command did not receive any report of crisis in Okene and its environs during the eid-el-fitr festival.
