As gestures continue to pour on Kwara state in its bid to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the state, a philanthropist in the state, Engr.Sunday Adebayo Babalola,has donated 2,000 face masks toward the effort.
Balika,the Principal, Kwara Panacea Ambassador,made the donation to the Kwara state Technical Committte on Coronavirus in Ilorin.
Presenting the facemasks to the Kwara State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Technical Committee on COVID-19,Mr Kayode Alabi in Ilorin on Wednesday, the engineer said the gesture was part of his efforts to join government in limiting the spread of pandemic disease in the area.
He was represented by Mr Adegboye John Olawale, the Co-ordinator, Kwara Panacea Ambassador.
The donor called on all and sundary to support the state government in the fight against the Covid-19 in the state.
Olawale said:”We are in the office of the deputy governor of Kwara State, who doubles as the Chairman, Kwara state Technical Committee on Covid 19.
“Our mission is to deliver unto the committee, a donation of 2,000 facemasks created by our Principal, Engr. Sunday Babalola.
“This is because the state government has formed the strategy that as from this point onward, every citizen of Kwara that who must be on the street must not go without covering his or her face with a view to limiting the spread of the Coronavirus.
“This is part of the things he has been doing in the distribution of palliatives to other local governments areas of the state.
“He believes that we should support the government’s fight against the Covid-19, by ensuring that every Kwara citizen has the facemask.
“We have started that by donating 2,000 facemasks and by the special Grace of God, more donations and more philanthropy will continue until the state is finally rid of the novel Coronavirus.
Quoting the phillntropist, Olawale urged people to eschew criticising the state government, especially at this trying time.
“This is not the time for criticism, politics and careless attitude, this is the time for us to come together and wage a concerted battle against the novel Coronavirus.
“This disease has the capacity to kill every human being,let us put our differences aside, people should come out and contribute to this fight rather than criticising this government.”
Receiving the donation, Alabi thanked the philanthropist and the groups for theit gesture, noting that the facemasks would go a long way in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The Deputy Governor also expressed appreciation to everyone who had contributed to the fight against Covid-19 in the state
Duaglobalnews recalls that Kwara State Government, while announcing measures to curtail community transmission of COVID-19 pandemic in the state, directed residents without something specific and urgent to do outside to stay at home.
It insisted that “anyone who wants to go out must use face mask.”
The authorities of state, stressed that the recent relax of the lockdown did not mean that the state was out of the wood of the Coronavirus.
Kwara now has 16 cases of COVID-19 as six patients were discharged but its neighbouring kogi state has not recorded any case of Coronavrus since the dreaded disease broke out in Wuhan in China, December 2019.
The disease has so far touched 34 states and the FCT with frightening statistics of cases, many patients discharged while some have passed on account of contradicting the disease.
