Gunmen storm 2 Niger state communities

The peace of two communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state, Galkogo and Zumba villages has been disrupted as gunmen, numbering about 50, invaded the area.

Duaglobalnews gathered that the two villages reportedly came under attack on Sunday morning, killing one mobile police officer and many others, including three military officers who sustained various degrees of injury.

Eyewitnesses told Duaglobalnews the attack lasted many hours,adding that the gunmen had field on the two communities without any challenge.

The bandits, who stormed the villages on motorcycles, were said to have taken the security men on duty unawares.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State Command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack but said he could not authenticate the casualty figure.

“We are yet to have details of the attack, the information reaching our headquarters is still very sketchy.“he said.

According to him, the command adding that the headquarters awaits details on the attack from the Divisional Police Office (DPO) in charge of Shiroro as at the time of this report.

He, however said that, “a Mobile Police Officer was killed and five other persons including a little girl, three military men and another civilian sustaining gun injuries.“

The online medium reports that Niger state has been under attack in recent time by bandits.
