INEC ready for Kwara by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara state says it has concluded arrangements for the successful conducted of the Saturday by-election to fill the vacant seat for the Patigi State Constituency.

Addressing Journalists at the INEC office in Ilorin , the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC),,Malam Garba Attahiru Madami, said the commission had received sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the election.

He said all the materials were kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Madami explained that the distribution of the materials which include ballot box and result sheets to all the polling units in the local government would commence on Thursday.

He noted that six political parties had signifed intention to contest in the exercise,out of the eight political parties that registered for the primaries, adding that all political campaigns were expected to end on Saturday.

He urged political parties to conduct themselves peacefully before,during and after the elections.

The REC, however, assured all contestants of the determination of the commission to conduct ” free and fair and credible election.”

Duaglobalnews reports that the elections will be conducted in 59 polling units ,56 voting points within 10 wards of the local government with 52,233 registered voters.
